Please join ACEC Bay Bridge Chapter as we welcome Port of San Francisco’s Deputy Director of the Waterfront Resiliency Program, Planning, Adam Varat. Adam will share the latest updates on the Waterfront Resiliency Program as well as future design and construction opportunities.
Current estimates show a sea level rise between 3 and 7 feet by the year 2100. The Port of San Francisco, along with the Army Corps of Engineers, are developing plans for this massive engineering challenge to address rising sea levels and well as urgent earthquake risk along the 7+ miles of affected shoreline.
The Port recently released seven Waterfront Adaptation Strategies based on over five years of public engagement. Over the coming year, the Port will engage with City residents to select the best ideas from all of them to create a Draft Waterfront Adaptation Plan (Tentatively Selected Plan). Mr. Varat will briefly detail the various strategies and how the Port will develop the final plan that will improve and rejuvenate the waterfront, improve the City’s connection to the Bay, and bring benefits such as more open space, enhanced mobility, safety and jobs.
